A Life in Need of a Blessing: Lien, 6 years old, was found by the police wandering the streets of Saigon in 2001. She was cold, tired, and hungry. What was not known at the time was that she was also blind, deaf, and mute. She also had Down syndrome. She was probably abandoned by her parents for their lack of money to support her. She was sent to a social service center for shelter and care. The children teased her because of her inability to communicate. It took 3 years to find a caring facility that could better care for her special needs. They approached Nh?t H?ng School for the Blind. Her special needs of being deaf, mute, blind, and afflicted with Down syndrome were warmly accepted by Nhat Hong. She came to her new home on August 13, 2004, and now has transferred to a new home at Suoi Mo Home in Bao Loc. The weather here is cooler which is better for her condition. She is now in the company of fellow schoolmates with similar disabilities. Lien, who was mute and deaf before, now has learned to listen and talk and be more independent in caring for herself. Now 13 years old, she is enjoying a happy life with her friends. Lien, as well as her friends and schoolmates with similar disabilities and impairments, have gotten the needed care to live a productive life with peace, and the blessings of God.
