Hundreds of thousands of children are suffering. Missing limbs, damaged hearts, facial deformities, Downs, autism, ADHD. We're a lifeline for families struggling with birth defects.

Human Interest Story Our whole community is so grateful to Birth Defect Research for Children (BDRC). My family was shocked when our granddaughter was born with a cleft palate. I wondered why this happened since we didn't have any history of birth defects in our family. Then I started to notice a lot of other children in our small town with the same birth defect. I called all the government agencies to report my concerns, but no one took me seriously until I phoned Birth Defect Research. They collected information on the cleft palate cases through their National Birth Defect Registry and reported that we had 18 cases over just three years....a cleft palate cluster. They also helped us investigate the cause of the cluster. Chemicals known to cause birth defects like cleft palate were leaking into our water supply from an old landfill. Thanks to Birth Defect Research, government agencies have now taken action to confirm the cleft palate cluster; cover the landfill; move the source of community water away from the landfill and warn residents not to drink the well water.
