Where would you turn if you found out that your baby or preschooler could not hear? At John Tracy Clinic, we help parents grapple with the devastating news of deafness and teach them how to help their children develop spoken language to fulfill their promise in the world. Imagine you are living thousands of miles from home in a foreign land when your baby is diagnosed as deaf or hard of hearing. Army Sergeant and Mrs. Smythe were stationed in Europe when their worse suspicions tragically proved true. At 10 months, an audiologist confirmed that their infant son, Mark, was hearing-impaired. Heartbroken, they contacted John Tracy Clinic desperate for information about what to do. Within days, the Clinic responded with a letter of encouragement, along with the first lesson of the Correspondence Course and a DVD or VHS tape demonstrating educational techniques they could use immediately to help their baby learn listening and speaking skills on par with his peers. The Clinic remained a constant source of information and much-needed emotional support when several transfers required reluctant changes in their son's schooling. Now back in the United States, the Smythes warmly write of Mark's continuing progress while thanking the Clinic for its guidance, provided free of charge. Someday, they hope to come to California to attend one the Clinic's three-week Summer Sessions. John Tracy Clinic, founded in 1942, is the worlds largest private provider of services to families of infants and young children with hearing loss. Over 3,000 families a year receive help through the Correspondence Program. Your support will change lives.
